Amazonia Calling is a growing global coalition of Indigenous leaders, local communities, scientists, artists, and allies dedicated to protecting the world’s largest rainforest. We unite voices across the Amazon and around the world to support Indigenous-designed solutions, safeguard biodiversity, defend human rights, and protect the forest’s vital role in stabilizing our climate and water systems for the future of the planet.
Home to 30% of the planet’s biodiversity and a central component of the global water cycle, the Amazon forest is essential for life on Earth.. The Amazon plays a critical role in climate stability, biodiversity, and water security. To secure a just and thriving future for Amazonia and the planet, we echo the voices of Indigenous Peoples, Local Communities, and Civil Society across the region and the world
Our collective future depends on five urgent and interconnected goals:
Recognition and protection of all Indigenous territories, especially territories with the presence of Indigenous Peoples in Isolation and Initial Contact (PIACI), as climate policy and action.
Direct financing and financial autonomy for Indigenous communities.
Representation and effective participation of Indigenous and local communities in decision-making.
Inclusion of Indigenous knowledge systems in policy and practice.
Establishment of exploitation-free zones in Indigenous territories.
Together, these goals echo the pathway outlined in the Indigenous Declaration—rooted in regional consensus among the eight Amazonian countries and driven by a global necessity. This vision also embraces the expansion of food sovereignty, regenerative livelihoods, and a thriving bioeconomy that sustains both local communities and the forest’s ecological integrity.
Amazonia Calling unites diverse partners as a global movement to promote these ideas through collective action at COP30 and beyond. Bringing this vision into reality requires direct support for those in the region as well as a new financial architecture grounded in fair trade, real funding, and deforestation-free supply chains.
